A fast link to the geniuses that think that welded aluminium is stronger then original material: www.lincolnelectric.com/en-gb/support/welding-solutions/Pages/aluminum-faqs-detail.aspx WHEN they have read this and found that their "I am a welder" comment was nothing but a lie they realize that this Audi R8 have been made a death trap as it WILL losing all balance at some point when breaking hard. If the car only could kill himself on a track i would say "go ahead m8". But he is a danger to innocent people on the road and should be stopped.

Just watch a video of them making one and you will see straight away why you cant do this, when it gets to the bit about the aluminium parts being put in an oven AFTER they are pressed to strengthen them, they do the same with aircraft parts, its very precise and critical .I did start out life as a metallurgist but nothing to do with Aluminium I just watch a lot of video's.

Bell ends  By right's this is not the way you repair a car of this magnitude but everyone has there own way of doing shit . the  work that has taken place here is done at a cost  . Was the car put on a jig at any time after the damage was repaired i doubt So you do not know if the car is square to the floor  that would have been the next stage after your temporary repair .  personal if i was the engineer that was asked to check this prior  being deemed road worthy i would have failed it . Sorry but there is a right way and a wrong way . i do not like what has took place here . crashed it yet  you will

If you intend to sell this vehicle, are you.. 1. Having the buyer sign a waiver that the repair work you did waives any claims or your liability? 2. Is this car still insurable?

I can't believe a guy would spend $30,000 on a high-performance car and not even buy the service manual for it. It saves you the time and effort of "figuring it out" as you stated for the shock removal. Most importantly it gives you the exact specifications you need for torquing down bolts, the proper measurements for any adjustments etc., and provides diagrams that would be helpful in any body repairs. If you are going to do something like this then do it right or don't do it at all. Then using a jack stand a point to secure the chain for pull back ram and hydraulic ram pump. How safe was that? Any unexpected stresses on the jack stand and the bam that front body section come crashing down. Samcrac is a shop accident waiting to happen. Then he breaks the strut mount hole and windshield. priceless. This isn't auto repair, it's auto repair comedy.

Modern Vehicles including the cheapest Toyota's are built using steels with different tolerances. Read about Ultra High Strength steel, High Strength steel, Mild Steel, All the different alloys and things such as Carbon Fibre used in modern vehicles. They use them in conjunction with the safety features such as crumple zones and air bag deployment. You cant repair cars like a swordsmith its 2018.

Im not an expert. But i work with alot of metals. This repair seems a little sketchy. If it were my car i would have had the guy weld it just like you did without the very small gusset. Grind it all flat , and then cover the entire area with a half inch aluminum plate shaped to the frame. So kinda like a triangle. I dont have access to an R8 otherwise id design the piece for you (thats what i do for a living). I pray nothing happens but this fix seems unsafe.

I broke a windshield working on the front of the dash day before a road trip, happens so quick. Thankfully on the passenger side so didn't fix until back. And I was complaining about $300 in labor (thankfully happened to have a used one from a parts vehical). The bent rod seems to further support road caused damage.

I probably would have reinforced it with a few more pieces and gussets wherever I could fit them. I have faith it would hold then. All these asshats that think they know everything are funny. Most of them probably helped design it this shitty to begin with. Or would be the guys that have the design a thumbs up come inspection time.

Weld? Why? I think it will crack again. Too much fatigue and now metallurgical damage from welding. I would have put it in place, and then bolted plate over the top. Bolting on a plate would have caused much less damage to the parent metal.

Bravo, have fun when u get in an accident next time. Maybe u should learn about different types of material used by european manufactures to make the car disform in acertain way. Some can be bended, some can be heated, some must be replaced. This is why it takes people in body workshops about 3 years of education to simple work there, another year to call them selves "Meister" to be able to own a body shop and multiple trainings every year to learn how to fix new invented techniques on cars. As your car is an Audi which is known to use always the newest techniques to be better, lighter and saver you are areally brave man to carry out that repair....do you know the darwin award?

Its not the suspension mods. Its not the welding quality. This car should have been put on a frame machine before and during the time these repairs were made, unless this clown can check demonsions with his eyes he has no idea if the frame is straight. Much less safe. Anybody with any amount of automotive knowledge and common sense would have put this car on a frame machine, but he's too cheap. This ins't even close to a correct start to this type of repair. This isn't a pinto. It is a highly engineered supercar designed to go above 180 mph he's gonna get someone killed.

fact is, the welded area is now stronger than original. That doesn't mean an issue won't arise later AROUND that area. i'm not so much bothered by the repair as i am how proud he is that he spent nothing getting it fixed..except for the glass guy...he didn't beat the glass guy up over his price. Then when he goes to sell the car...he's going to be asking for a premium price.

This is better than the 3 stooges. It's a shame this car was ruined by a hack job on jackstands. While Sam obviously does not have much common sense, he does have ACCESS to some money, why he didn't get this on a frame machine and have it fixed right is beyond me. With 31 years in the car business, I have bought several cars like this and always send to my body/frame shop with a state of the art frame machine (well over $100K) because he has the expertise and ability to get the car fixed right to within a fraction of a millimeter.
